Also known as the Golden City, Jaisalmer was founded
by Bhatti Rajput ruler Rawal Jaisal in 1156. Its
location on the trade route between India and Central
Asia made the region prosperous, traces of which
are still seen in various magnificent havelis that
were built by the merchants at that time. Today,
these havelis are the prized attraction of Jaisalmer.
