Nature perhaps demanded more from valiant men and so, the Rathore rulers of the former kingdom of Marwar emerged triumphant in the hazardous desert conditions, on account of their sheer hardiness. After the Muslim conquest of Kannauj in 12th century AD; they migrated to the west. In the centuries that followed, branches of the house of Rathores ruled over large desert tracts, including Jodhpur.
